AMCF is the only organization exclusively devoted to protecting your firm's interests among US state, federal, and international government bodies and agencies. AMCF partners with local organizations world-wide to represent the industry. The key issues currently monitored include taxation, licensing and regulation, public sector competition and international trade and independence rules.

  1. State sales taxes - Monitoring state legislation to impose sales taxes on professional services. As revenue from sales on the Internet increase, and as cycles of government revenues shift, states may again turn to these fees as a source of revenue. Currently Hawaii, South Dakota, Connecticut, and New Mexico have some form of professional services tax.

  2. Professional liability - Monitoring the issue of professional liability of consulting firms and lobbying for legislation to limit punitive damages.

  3. Licensing - Monitoring state legislation to license management consulting firms and individuals.

  4. International trade - Ensuring that trade agreements are favorable and supportive of management consulting.

  5. Government contractors - Continue to monitor and comment on Federal laws, regulations, and policies governing Federal procurement to streamline the acquisition of management consulting and outsourcing services.

  6. Recovery auditing - Monitor pending Federal legislation to ensure that it is not burdensome to management consulting. Legislation is inadequately integrated with other laws and has an incentive to find recoverables.

  7. False Claims Act - Support changes sought in the legislation which are currently detrimental to large firms.

  8. Visa regulations - Support changes in existing Federal law which are detrimental to government contractors.

  9. Data Privacy - Continuous monitoring.

  10. Securities and Exchange Comission - AMCF provides information to the SEC and to management consulting firms on proposed rules. To see AMCF's work in this area please proceed to AMCF's SEC Information page.

We encourage you to check out the current updates to the work of the SEC by going to their website: www.sec.gov

AMCF is the only organization representing management consulting
and as such must represent its member firms by continuing to vigilantly monitor and take action as necessary on these issues. The movement of the Big Five to separate consulting from the accounting side and go public heightens the responsibility and opportunity for AMCF to provide leadership for these new entities and the management consulting industry as a whole. We will hold Government Affairs committee meetings as the issues dictate.
